Let’s Get Real! – Alicia Keys
Let’s define Alicia Keys as the epitome of beauty and empowerment for women. She’s not only on fire but a force to be reckoned with when it comes to natural beauty.
According to www.today.com, Alicia did not originally intend to go ‘makeup-free’ for her album artwork. She’d just arrived at the photo studio from the gym and was prepared to get her hair and makeup done, but when photographer Paola Kudacki saw her and urged the 35-year-old Grammy winner to consider shooting ‘as is.’
Keys hesitated … to say the least. “Now? She asked! Like right now? I want to be real, but this might be too real!”
She explained how she initially felt about the shoot in an essay for Lenny Letter. “My face was totally raw. I had on a sweatshirt! As far as I was concerned, this was my quick run-to-the-shoot-so-I-can-get-ready look, not the actual photo-shoot look,” she wrote.
“I’m so moved by the connection we’ve shared and support I’ve received since sharing my Lenny Letter,” she told TODAY. “I believe this is the time of the woman. The definitive moment when we get to uncover the ideals that have been placed upon us and be who we are, as we are, in all of our beauty, depth and complexity. For me, not wearing much makeup is a metaphor for that.”
