Goodness Gracious Cookies: Serving a Divine Purpose

WOE Magazine caught up with Publisher of Divine Magazine and Founder of Glamour Girl Movement, Megan Mottley to discuss her latest creation, Goodness Gracious Cookies.

WM: As the founder of two successful brands, Divine Magazine and Glamour Girl Movement, what inspired you to start baking cookies?

MM: I began baking as a teenager. Both of my grandmothers baked so it’s a gift that has been passed down throughout generations. During the holidays, my mother would allow me to take over the kitchen to bake cookies, cakes, and other sweet treats. In college, I’d always sign up to bake cookies for potlucks. As a young single mother, I’d bake for my child’s teachers, family, and friends. It was an easy and affordable way to give gifts and be the talk of every potluck.

Fast forward to 2016, my daughter presented to me the news that our church was hosting a mission trip to Japan. I instantly believed that this opportunity was a part of her destiny because she had been taking Japanese since middle school. We decided that even though she was young and we would spend 9 days apart, we couldn’t let the opportunity pass. I gave my daughter permission to travel abroad if she promised to work hard to help raise $3,500 in trip fees due just two months later. We planned a fundraiser for every week leading up to the mission trip. Unfortunately, the very first fundraiser we planned totally flopped. After seeing my daughter’s disappointment, I had to roll my sleeves up and think fast. I restored her hope with the idea that I would bake some of my famous cookies to recoup what we would’ve made from our first fundraiser. Little did we know, our back up plan became our master plan because in less than 8 weeks, we had raised over $5,000. We raised enough funds in a two-month period to not only cover my daughter’s trip but we ended up helping three other people raise funds for their mission trip.

After the fundraiser, the orders kept rolling and other people approached me to help them raise funds for various projects. After much prayer, consistent support from customers, and landing two big corporate orders, I decided to launch Goodness Gracious Cookies as an official business.

WM: What is the mission behind the brand?

MM: The Goodness Gracious Cookie brand has a two-fold mission: to provide customers with a luxe cookie experience and also to continue our community initiative, Cookies for Missions, to create awareness about and raise funds for global mission trips and local causes.

WM: Who are your target customers?

MM: Cookie lovers of all ages and those who don’t yet realize just how much they love cookies.

WM: What are some of your top selling cookies?

MM: My top selling cookies are Ultimate Oatmeal Raisin and Chocolate Chip Pecan.

WM: Do you plan on breaking into the wholesale market to widen your brand?

MM: I do! I’m currently working on placing Goodness Gracious Cookies in a few retail locations.

WM: Please share one recipe with us.

MM: Most of my recipes include quite a few steps to achieve their made-from-scratch luxe appeal but this recipe is so quick and easy that even a novice baker will feel like a pro.
