BET Premiere “Secrets” The Movie: Tressa Azarel Smallwood Spreading #Blackgirlmagic

We love to see amazing women “Slay Excellence” by utilizing their gifts and talents to inspire others. Tressa “Azarel” Smallwood is an author, movie producer, award-winning  Publisher of Life Changing Books INC, and owner of, an organization that inspires women through business and networking mentorship.

As a highly accomplished publisher, Tressa has expanded her media craft into the film industry with Life Changing Films, Smallwood has secured a distribution deal with BET for the showing of her movie SECRETS (About a successful businessman who has a sexual appetite larger than what’s on his plate at home, chaos erupts.) on SEPT 16th-2017  which won Featured Narrative Film at the American Black Film Festival (ABFF) in 2016.

Tressa is making waves in the film industry with a proven track record of success and creating a seat at the table for other upcoming women in arts and entertainment. We decided to catch up with Tressa to chat about her journey and what’s next for this amazing WOE Woman.

WM: In your role as publisher who has published over 141 books, why did you choose to bring “Secrets of a Housewife” (Movie entitled Secrets) to the big screen?

TAS: Secrets appeals to the masses because it delves into relationships, the good , the bad, and the ugly. It’s a true account of how one bad decision in a relationship can be life changing. We sold over 300,000 copies of the book Secrets of a Housewife  written by J. Tremble so I knew the movie would be a huge hit whereas some of my other books targets more niche markets.

WM: The movie ‘Secrets’ was released last year by your company – Mega Mind Media and promoted through various theaters outlets across the east coast. How did you gain exposure to land a spot on BET?   How does it feel to see your work on T.V. screens across a network with over 7 million viewers?

TAS: We promoted Secrets independently on a 10 city tour to promote the movie after landing a tv licensing deal with BET in Nov 2016. We actually had the opportunity to meet the BET tv Execs at our screening during the Miami ABFF film festival where our film was a featured film. From there we had many offers on the table. I literally had to pinch myself today when I saw the Secrets words and image appear on the Direct TV Channel Guide today. It’s so surreal. All I can do is Thank God! He makes it all possible.

WM: What advice would you offer women aspiring to start a career in entertainment industry – movies, publishing and media? What would you say was the most challenging and rewarding periods in your journey?

TAS: First I would say figure out if being in any of these industries is truly your passion. Sometimes what looks exciting and profitable may not be your lane. It’s important to love what you do because it’s a lot of hard work with many more challenges than wins. Most people see the end result but I had many set-backs and failed segments of the project along the way. However, because of my love for the industry I was determined to see it through.

Secondly, if this is what you really want to go then go for it! Don’t let anyone or anything deter you. Let the nay sayers know that their negativity won’t be tolerated.

The most rewarding part of my journey is sharing these experiences with my children. They are able to see that hard work really does pay off.

WM: What do you want viewers to take away from watching ‘Secrets’ the movie?

TAS: I want viewers to walk away appreciating their mates. I think we all take our significant others for granted at some point. This movie will make you think twice. I also want you to walk away salivating for my next movie, ALL IN that will be released in late 2018 featuring Lil Mama, Rob Riley, Elise Neal, Traci Braxton, and Jim Jones.

WM: What’s next for Tressa Azarel Smallwood and MegaMind Media Inc.?

TAS: Thankfully, I stay ready. I’m filming two more movies before the end of 2017 ( Sinners Wanted  a faith based film ) and Carbon Copy, launching BOSS TALK RADIO and I’m also teaching brand new classes in the TressaAzarelVIPclub If that doesn’t keep me busy enough, how about my daughter Bailey turns 16 this month so pray for me!!!

Sounds like this “Boss Lady” is busy spreading creative #Blackgirlmagic, inspiring women across the nation!

Check out the trailer for Secrets The Movie and don’t forget to tune into BET on September 16th, 2017  8 p.m. EST.
